This project tasked us with longer exposure times to allow for dark settings to capture more light and possibly movement. I used a neutral density filter to allow for longer exposures as well.
While shooting for this project we were also challenged with trying HDR merging. This allowed us to capture multiple exposures of the same image and combine them to allow for contrast and detail in the shadows and highlights for a better overall image. For this shot I was drawn to the unnatural purple lighting in the ally by my apartment and the reflection of a puddle from a recent rain.
When thinking about night time photography I instantly think of bright neon lights. For this shot I had remembered the smoke shop when out on the town of Bloomington. I loved the colors of the neon, but was initially draw to the sign on the sign of the building that says "Holy". I feel this brings contrast to the subject matter and further makes the image.
